CHIRLA Press Statement: Argentina is on Right Side of Human Rights Approving Same-Sex Marriages

Argentina becomes the first Latin American country to approve gay marriages and adoptions leading the way for our continent in defense of human and civil rights for all.  CHIRLA statement below:

"We commend Argentina and the Argentenian people for taking a huge step forward in defense and protection of civil and human rights for all, including same-sex couples.  We have always stood on the side of family diversity and all the wide representations of that beautiful and sacred term.  Now, under the protection of the law, same-sex couples in Argentina will have the freedom to lift their relationships from the shadows and take on the responsibility that marriage and adoption represent, if they so choose.  Congratulations!"

Only the Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal and Canada allow same-sex couples to marry.  Uruguay allows same-sex couples to adopt children but not marry.  In the United States, only five states and Washington, DC allow same-sex couples to marry.  Mexico City also allows same-sex couples to marry and adopt children.
