PHOENIX -- A group opposed to Arizona's new immigration law is sending petitions to Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, urging him to move the 2011 All-Star Game, scheduled to be played at Chase Field in Phoenix, out of Arizona.

Jorge-Mario Cabrera with the Web site, move-the-game.org, is disappointed that Selig has not responded to repeated requests to move the game.

"We believe that Mr. Selig's silence is disturbing," Cabrera said. "We believe that he does have the authority to be able to make this move."

He said Selig also has a responsibility to move the game.

"There's a strong history of major sports having a social impact."

Cabrera cited as an example the World Cup soccer competition which ended Sunday in South Africa. He said that has given people around the world a greater appreciation of South Africa "with issues and with advancements and so forth, more than ever before because of this gathering of nations practicing a sport."

Cabrera said, "The same happens when baseball players meet, especially for such an important gathering as the All-Star Game."

He said the Web site has collected about 100,000 signatures urging that next year's game be pulled from Arizona.

Selig and Major League baseball have so far refused to get involved in the debate over Arizona's immigration law. There is no indication that the commissioner will meet with Cabrera's group or accept the petitions.
