Jessica Monterey Martinez is a Senior Paralegal at CHIRLA. Jess, as she prefers to be called, was born and raised in the Washington, DC area. Her parents are immigrants from Colombia and Nicaragua. Jess obtained her Associate’s Degree in Northern Virginia and hopes to continue her education in Los Angeles. She began her career in immigration law in early 2011 as a paralegal. Jess is sincerely passionate about serving the immigrant community, especially women and children.
Since embarking on her career in the legal field, Jess has dedicated much of her free time to finding ways to serve the immigrant community. She has coordinated know-your-rights clinics, volunteered for literacy and citizenship classes, also with the CARA Pro-bono Project, as well as with political organizations in her community. On her spare time, Jess enjoys spending time with her family, reading, hiking and trying out new food.
