Luis A. Perez grew up in the San Fernando Valley communities of Sepulveda, Pacoima and City of San Fernando. He is a proud graduate of San Fernando High School, LA Mission College, UCLA and UCLA School of Law.
Since August, 2012, Luis has coordinated CHIRLA’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) legal clinic. Through his team’s work, he has helped thousands of young immigrants in California apply for DACA. The education and outreach he has organized has insured that thousands more across the United States are provided with accurate information about DACA’s requirements, and warned of immigration fraud.
Luis’s work as a civic leader began years before the June 15, 2012 announcement of DACA. For over a decade, Luis has been involved in the struggle for immigrants’ rights. His work has been instrumental in insuring that the Federal Dream Act was introduced in Congress and securing the passage of the California Dream Act. Luis now directs CHIRLA’s Legal Services Department, which provides low-cost immigration services, including DACA, Naturalization, Removal Defense and Family Unification.
