Miriam Mesa

Miriam Mesa was born in Cuba arriving in Miami in 1995. She majored in Chemical Engineering at Instituto Superior Politécnico Jose Antonio Echeverria (ISPJAE) in Havana. She came to California in 1999 to work with a Fortune 500 company. She joined CHIRLA in 2000and has served as the Information and Referrals Specialist for the toll-free hotline. On a yearly basis, she handles more than 25,000 calls. She is BIA accredited, has completed an intensive immigration paralegal training with Immigration Legal Resources Center, and has received specialized training in domestic violence, lesbian and gay issues, housing, access to benefits, worker’s rights, and the citizenship application process. She is bilingual (Spanish/English) and enjoys reading extensively.
