California Dreamin': Outreach at the Beach for Immigration Reform

Chanting "we are the mighty, mighty students", various southern California high school and university students, including CHIRLA's COIN interns and WISE UP participants, met at Venice Beach and Santa Monica pier to conduct an unusual outreach activity. The purpose of the rally was to talk to people about immigration reform in an unlikely location: the beach. The response from the crowds ranged from pleasant surprise to outright antagonism. The high energy crowd, however, was determined to get emails and sign people up to national text message campaign. Below, some pictures, including those of dramatic street theater depicting a home ICE raid.
