REPORTS TO: Executive Director
POSITION SUMMARY: The Development Director, working closely with the Executive Director, the Board and lay leadership, will be responsible for planning, supervising and executing development programs to: 1) reach our annual and long-range development goals, and 2) develop strategies to support the growth and expansion of the organization. These programs include, but are not limited to:
• Major Gifts:
Build an overall vision, excitement, and momentum for increased giving that supports organizational growth. -Develop annual work plan and fundraising calendar with long and short range goals - Identify and strategize cultivation and outreach to prospective donors; develop message, case statement and outreach materials - Supervise Board campaigns and direct solicitations and set up solicitations for the Executive Director
• Planned Giving:
Track, cultivate and sustain planned givers - cultivate and solicit planned gifts from members and donors
• Foundations/Grants:
Maintain foundation grants calendar of submissions and reporting cycles - Build portfolio of foundation/grant prospects and supervise the writing of grants - Make appropriate initial contacts with foundations and grant sources.
• Membership:
Develop membership-building strategies, messages and materials. - Work with the Organizing Team for implementation of strategies - Be knowledgeable of CHIRLA's membership activities
Other Duties as Assigned
(e.g. maintenance of the special events calendar and preparation of reports for the Board of Directors)
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum 3 years Development experience including grant portfolio management, donor relations, and special events
• Excellent writing/grammatical skills
• Excellent computer skills including knowledge of databases for donor and grant management
• Comfortable and experienced in fast-paced environment and handling multiple deadlines
• Extremely well-organized and systems oriented
• Strong commitment to immigrant rights and social justice

REPORTS TO: Director of Organizing
POSITION SUMMARY: Seeking a self-starter for as an Organizer for the CHIRLA Household Worker Committee. The Organizer will be responsible for conducting direct outreach and recruitment of household workers into the Committee. The Organizer will also be responsible for the development of a leadership development program as well as the development and implementation of any Committee campaigns. The Organizer will also be part of the organizing team, which brings worker and student committees together for broader leadership development opportunities as well as joint campaign planning.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizing and Education
• Development and Implementation of Outreach and Recruitment plan for Household Workers into CHIRLA Household Worker Committee.
• Development and Implementation of leadership development program for Committee Members.
• Development and dissemination of worker rights materials
• Convene and Facilitate Committee meetings
• Contribute to broader Organizing Team and joint committees’ leadership development.
Campaign Coordination
• Lead Campaign Development and Implementation for Committee
• Update “State of Household Workers in Los Angeles” report and develop plan for dissemination
• Responsible for representing CHIRLA in state and national household worker coalitions, including integrating committee recommendations in these
• In conjunction with Communications Coordinator, develop and implement media strategies around the campaign and manage media inquiries
• Assist in development and implementation of broader CHIRLA campaigns, including member mobilization
Other Duties:
• Participate in and report at general staff and organizing team meetings
• Monthly written report on activities and progress on goals
• Conduct presentations to community at large concerning current CHIRLA campaigns
• Identify and coordinating relationships with local allies
Qualifications:
• Minimum two years community or worker direct organizing experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Bilingual English/Spanish a must
• Computer literacy: word processing, internet navigation, and other work-related applications
• Knowledge of and commitment to immigrant and worker rights and CHIRLA mission
• Flexible schedule: evening meetings and some weekends

1. Public Relations and Organizing: E-Advocacy
This internship will allow you to put to good use the skills you use every day on Facebook, MySpace, email, and your personal blog. You will assist CHIRLA's Public Relations and Organizing departments translate their work into the many online mediums availible today.
Qualifications:
-Familiarity with social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace
-Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and WYSIWYG editors
-Knowledge of graphics and desktop publishing software
-Sensitive to immigration issues and workers’ rights issues
-A strong writer/editor
-Creative, innovative, and artistic

A plus:
-Knowledge of UNIX, LINUX

2. Development Intern

Intern(s) will:
-Work with Executive Directors & CHIRLA development team in/out of CHIRLA office (computer, desk, internet available).
-Help plan/coordinate annual fundraising reception (event will be for 600 people). Event tasks will include:
o Planning an artistic component to the event
o Networking with corporate sponsors and community
members to fundraise for the event.
o Helping plan/outreach for a silent auction
-Help with development and fundraising
-Help organizers with administrative tasks in the CHIRLA office including such activities as designing flyers, posters or brochures; creating & maintaining databases; writing letters to community members; and other office-related tasks.
-This internship is flexible in terms of hours.
