Aimee Negrete is originally from Sinaloa, Mexico but grew up in Los Angeles, California. She was brought to the United States when she was three years old by her mother in search of a better future. Growing up, she knew that she was undocumented but did not know the difficulties of being an immigrant in the United States until she was an adult. It was hard having to look for a job or being able to attend college without being asked for citizenship status. However, thanks to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, she was eligible for a work permit and received help for a higher education. Before coming to CHIRLA, she completed her Associate of Arts Degree in Office Assistant Clerical and Administrative Assistant from Los Angeles Trade-Tech College in 2018.
