Liliana joined CHIRLA in April 2019 as a Paralegal for the Removal Defense Unit. She was born and raised in East Los Angeles from Mexican immigrant parents. Her parents along with her two older sisters came to the U.S. from Puebla, Mexico in hopes of a better future.
Liliana was the first in her family to attend and graduate from a four-year university. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2018 with a double major in Political Science and Ethnic Studies. Being a first generation student and a daughter of immigrants created an interest to want to advocate and work for the underrepresented communities. Liliana has always been interested in immigrant rights and working at CHIRLA would give her the opportunity to give back to her hometown of Los Angeles.
In the past, she has worked in a non-profit immigration law firm in Oakland, CA on different types of immigration cases. In the future, Liliana hopes to attend law school and become an attorney.
