Jose Luis Tadeo Cruz was born in Colima, Mexico, and migrated to the United States with his mother after suffering third-degree burns on 75% of his body. Five years later he reunited with his family in Echo Park, the neighborhood where he grew up. He is a DACA-recipient and has lived in the United States for 20 years. Luis has deep roots at CHIRLA, being involved all through high school, college, and now as the E-Advocate for CHIRLA. In 2016, Luis started working as CHIRLA’s E-Advocate Coordinator and has since led local and national digital campaigns to change the current anti-immigrant narrative in the nation. Luis is passionate about highlighting the amazing contributions made by the immigrant community through their everyday lives.
