Zuleyma was born in Mexico City in 1990, where she was raised before migrating to the US. She first migrated to the U.S. with her father, mother, and sister in 1996, but soon shortly returned to Mexico. After couple of years, in 2000, the family migrated permanently to CA. After graduating from High Tech High-LA in 2009, she saw the difficulties of living in the US as an undocumented adult. However, it wasn't until 2012 when DACA was announced that she found CHIRLA and became fully aware of the immigrant rights movement.... and there was no turning back. She soon joined the CDN and has since then been involved in many campaigns for immigration reform. As well as travel to Sacramento and Washington D.C. were she has lobbied and spoken to elected officials. Her passion for the immigrant rights movements has been inspired and fueled by the work that CHIRLA does for the immigrant community. As a volunteer and member of the organization, she jumped at the opportunity to work in the Membership Dept. in early 2018, and loves being able to contribute to the fight for immigrant rights.
