Julio Martinez immigrated to the U.S. when he was 12 years old and his own immigrant experience has motivated him to pursue a career in the immigrant rights movement. At a very early age, Julio learned about the nonprofit sector via an after school program, CARES inc., which shut down due to losing grant funding. His current position as Grant Writer for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) allows him to fulfill his passion for helping immigrants achieve their goals and supporting community-based nonprofit organizations.

Julio’s current volunteer work includes being a Child Advocate with the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights helping unaccompanied immigrant children build their legal cases while in deportation proceeding. Julio obtained a dual Master’s Degree in Social Work and Public Administration at the University of Southern California (USC), and currently serves as Treasurer at the USC Latino Alumni Advisory Board.

In his free time Julio enjoys playing soccer and helping his twin brother write, produce and direct film projects.
