Join us as a Sponsor for our 30th Anniversary Gala Celebration that will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016, in Los Angeles.
This is a momentous time for the immigrant rights movement. Recent public rhetoric by elected leaders and candidates has been marked by disturbing racism, xenophobia, and anti-immigrant sentiment, while deportations are at an all-time high. At the same time, our movement is growing stronger every day. We have changed millions of lives through DACA and our collective voices have secured real wins in California. The Immigrant Rights Movement has so much to celebrate after 30 years, and this energy can drive us forward at the national level, can inspire us to build a better world for immigrant families, and for all families.
CHIRLA’s Annual Gala brings together hundreds of community and elected leaders, advocates, and organizations to celebrate the enormous contributions to our state of immigrants and their allies and is our biggest celebration of the year, which highlights our work serving and empowering more than 100,000 immigrants across California. Over the years at the Gala, CHIRLA has had the pleasure of honoring many distinguished leaders and powerful campaigns.
We are proud to announce the 2016 Honorees, all heroes of the immigrant rights movement:
- The Honorable Jerry Brown, Governor of the State of California (Invited)
A champion for immigrant families, Governor Brown has helped immigrants increase workplace protections, drive without fear, and secure free legal services including DACA and Citizenship.
- The Honorable Luis V. Gutierrez, Congressman (D-IL), US House of Representatives
A hero to the immigrant rights movement, Congressman Gutierrez is the Chairman of the Immigration Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and has been a tireless advocate for the rights of immigrants.
- Jennie Snyder Urman (Creator), Gina Rodriguez and the Cast of Jane the Virgin (The CW)
Beloved by audiences world wide, Jane the Virgin has consistently lifted up authentic and moving portrayals of mixed immigrant families and the challenges our undocumented family members face as a result of our broken immigration system.
- Judge Theresa Traber, Los Angeles County Superior Court, and Bert Voorhees, Attorney
As the Law Firm Traber and Voorhees, Former-Attorney Theresa Traber and Attorney Bert Voorhees fought for the rights and dignity of immigrant workers in landmark workplace cases, including the case of Club 907, returning millions of dollars in stolen wages, and winning justice for exploited and harassed workers.
The year of 2016 will be a defining one for our country, and your support as a Gala sponsor will help us continue CHIRLA’S efforts on the vital issues impacting immigrant families.
