From its beginning, CHIRLA set out to ensure that each person in our community, no matter their circumstance, had the best tools to protect their rights. We worked hard to develop the most creative ways to change the conversation about immigrants and put them at the center of that change. So we created a film program.

In its work to achieve a fair society fully inclusive of immigrants, CHIRLA uses short and full-length films as know-your-rights tools that dramatize immigrants’ struggles against an unjust system. These movies allow audiences, especially those not familiar with immigrants, to engage with our strife, our joys, and our fears.
CHIRLA’s Know-Your-Rights video, created in the 2007, is one of our most effective tools to show thousands of families how to protect themselves when immigration officials come to their homes or workplaces. Its message is current even today.
America, I Too, the fictional short film about three immigrants who meet in detention as they navigate a broken immigration system, expanded our capacity to tell immigrant stories.
CHIRLA's new feature film, America's Family, tells the story of how when ICE raids the Diaz family home on Thanksgiving, Mother Marisol is arrested and locked up in detention, son Koke is deported to Mexico, and Father Jorge flees for protective sanctuary in a local synagogue. The two American born children; young attorney Emiliano and his teen sister Valentina (while also managing her epilepsy) race to do whatever they can to reunite the family while their parents and brother do what they must to get home.
