Karla Navarrete is a first generation Chicana, daughter of a single mother who migrated from Mexico.  Ms. Navarrete grew up in San Diego, CA and was always interested in immigrant rights. As an undergraduate student at UCLA, Ms. Navarrete volunteered teaching ESL classes to day laborers in Los Angeles; after graduating, she worked as a union and community organizer. As a law student at Loyola Law School she was Vice President of La Raza de Loyola, Co-Chair and Founder of the Immigration Law Society, and Public Interest Law Foundation. She was also part of the immigration justice practicum and civil rights litigation practicum. She has also volunteered at Homeboy Industries, Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project, and the UCLA Labor Center. Ms. Navarrete also clerked for the Law Office of Enrique Arevalo. After becoming an attorney, Ms. Navarrete worked at the National Immigration Law Center (NILC) as a DACA Fellow where she primarily assisted in DACA legal clinics and advocacy. Currently, she works at CHIRLA as a Family Unity and Deportation Defense Attorney. She assists families in their various immigration processes by helping provide quality affordable legal representation. Included but not limited to: U-Visas, VAWA, Adjustment of Status, Family Petitions and deportation defense.
